คดี : อะไรคือ Lie Detector ( Polygraph ) ?
เป็นที่ทราบกันดีเกี่ยวกับเครื่องใช้ในการสอบสวนประกอบการพิจารณาคดี และมันก็กำลังเป็นหัวข้อที่พวกเราต่างก็พูดถึงกันอยู่ในเวลานี้ แต่ที่จะมาพูดถึงนี้เพียงอยากจะมาเล่าถึงความถูกต้องแม่นจำที่ได้ไปลองค้นคว้ามาให้เราได้รับทราบกัน ไม่ใช่เกี่ยวกับผลของคดีที่กำลังเกิดขึ้น เพราะเราจะไม่เชื่อถืออะไรทั้งสิ้นจนกว่าจะได้ยินคำยีนยันออกมาอย่างเป็นทางการของเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจหรือใครที่เกี่ยวข้องกับดคีเท่านั้นจะขอนำเอาบางส่วนที่ไปอ่านเจอมาเล่าสู่กันฟังดังนี้

The dirty little secret behind the polygraph is that the "test" depends on trickery, not science. The person being "tested" is not supposed to know that while the polygraph operator declares that all questions must be answered truthfully, warning that the slightest hint of deception will be detected, he secretly assumes that denials in response to certain questions -- called "control" questions -- will be less than truthful. An example of a commonly used control question is, "Did you ever lie to get out of trouble?" The polygrapher steers the examinee into a denial by warning, for example, that anyone who would do so is the same kind of person who would commit the kind of behavior that is under investigation and then lie about it. " คนถามเท่ากับได้ทำให้เตือนคนผู้ตอบให้ต้องปฏิเสธออกไป เช่น ถ้าคุณเคยทำอย่างนั้นมาก่อนคุณก็คือคนเดียวกับที่อาจจะทำผิดในพฤติกรรมเดียวกันกับที่ตำรวจได้กำลังทำการสอบสวนอยู่ แต่คุณโกหกเกี่ยวกับมัน แต่ความลับก็คือ มันก็รู้กันอยู่ว่าคนทุกคนก็ต้องเคยโกหกกันมาแล้วทั้งนั้นเพื่อที่จะเอาตัวเองออกจากปัญหานั้นๆไปให้ได้
เมื่อได้อ่านบทความสั้นๆที่เอามาลงนี้แล้ว เราลองมาดูกันว่ามันจะใช้กับในกรณีที่พวกเรากำลังใจจรดใจจ่อกันได้อย่างไร
1. ถ้าความน่าเชื่อถือมีเพียง 61 % ก็โชคดีที่มันไม่สามารถเอามาเป็นหลักฐานประกอบคดีได้ เพราะเราต้องการทุกอย่างที่มีการพิสูจน์ว่าเป็นความจริง 100% เท่านั้น ใช่ไหม ?

4. คำถามที่เรียกว่า " Control Question " และวิธีการดักเตือนล่วงหน้าทำให้ต้องออกมาปฏิเสธในสิ่งที่คนธรรมดาสามัญคนไหนก็อาจจะเคยทำมาบ้างไม่มากก็น้อยเพราะความกลัวที่ว่าจะกลายเป็นการโกหก ก็เลยกลายเป็นโกหกในที่สุด : ดังเช่นคำถามตัวอย่างที่ว่า " คุณเคยโกหกเพื่อเอาตัวรอดออกจากปัญหาบ้างไหม " เราทุกคนก็คงทราบว่า พวกเราทุกคนก็เคยกันมาแล้วทั้งนั้นแหละ แม้แต่เพียงแค่การมาทำงานสาย ใครจะกล้าไปบอกเจ้านายว่ามาสายเพราะแวะไปดูร้านเสื้อที่กำลังลดราคาอยู่ เราก็ต้องบอกว่ารถติดเลยมาสาย แต่ในกรณีนี้ ถ้าเราตอบว่า " ใช่ " ขึ้นมา มันก็เท่ากับเรายอมรับว่าเราโกหกเกี่ยวกับคดีนี้ที่เรากำลังถูกยื่นฟ้องอยู่ไปเลย ดังนั้นเราก็จะต้องรู้สึกไม่สบายใจกับคำถามอย่างนี้ก่อนที่จะจำใจต้องตอบไปว่า " ไม่เคย " และผลเครื่องจับเท็จก็คงกลายเป็นว่า เราได้พูดโกหก ไปเสียแล้ว
